Motoring enthusiasts needn't have to wait for the festive period to pass. AutoClassics brings you a guide to car events on this Boxing Day

If come Boxing Day you don’t fancy watching Moonraker for the 15th time on ITV4 and all the newly received Christmas presents are on charge, then the automotive world can help with your itchy feet.

Car shows and race meetings haven’t stopped entirely for the festive period and AutoClassics has a run-down of what to find and where to take your car on December 26.

Plum Pudding Races, Mallory Park

This year will be the 43rd running of the infamous Plum Pudding meeting at Lincolnshire’s Mallory Park. And what’s more it features both two- and four-wheeled entries with bikes, sports cars and saloons all featuring.

The morning’s practice session is routine, but unlike conventional race meetings, the grid isn’t determined by qualifying times but rather the order in which competitors’ entries were received.

That means it’s definitely more of a fun, festive meeting but it’s an element of excitement you’d be hard pushed to convince competitors of the rest of the year round. The starting order for the second race is then decided by reversing the results of race one. So it means plenty of overtaking throughout the field in a genuine cat-and-mouse shootout to the chequered flag.

Practice starts at 09.45 with the racing following at 1130. Adults only have to pay £12 on the gate and under 16s can go for free.

Benington Classics, The Lordship Arms

For those based closer to the Midlands, then the Boxing Day classic car meeting at CAMRA pub The Lordship Arms could be right for you.

It holds classic car meetings throughout the year, but for 2017 there’s a Christmas special too.

It starts at midday so there’s time to sleep-in and then it’s a case of turning up and enjoying yourself. All classic vehicles are welcome and there’s no booking required.

Similarly, you don’t need to pay or to be a member.

Romsey’s 16th Boxing Day pre-1976 Car & Bike Meet, Crosfield Hall

If you’ve blown the budget on Christmas shopping then free entry to Romsey’s Annual Boxing Day Special is well worth considering.

It first launched in 2002 with 50 cars but now attracts more than 600, plus a further 250 bikes.

From 9am to 1pm, cars and bikes from before and including 1976 plus pre-1986 American cars, hot rods and bikes will all assemble in the cars parks of Romsey. If your motor fits within those parameters then it can be on display. It works on a first come, first serve basis with no pre-entry required.

As well as pleasing car fans, it’s also held to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

Cold Turkey Meet, Ace Cafe

Two events will be held at the iconic Ace Cafe in Northwest London on Boxing Day.

The Cold Turkey Meet runs from 10am to 4pm, then from 6pm onwards there will be a VAG Night.

As per the last Tuesday of every month, it’s a chance to celebrate and showcase the Volkswagen Audi Group product line.

Cars on the Green, Sarratt village, Herts

This long-established meeting brings a wide range of vehicles, often including steam-powered varieties, and now includes an autojumble in the village all too, as well as entertainment at The Cricketer's pub. The event runs from 11am to 3pm.

It's a very informal, friendly event. Just turn up – but get there in plenty of time if you want to park your classic on the green.
