Run the mechanicals without due care and Germany’s steadfast engineering will plot against you, your friends and your family akin to automotive Patrick Bateman. The leather seats boast a remarkable condition, as do the carpets, but there is one casualty of time. The unforgiving heat of three decades under the Californian sun remains imprinted on the dashboard, with crack lines dominating an otherwise immaculate interior.

Don’t let some age-related stress marks put you off, however. Make no bones about it, this is a restoration project and replacing the dash will prove to be only one of several jobs needing undertaken. If you want this Porsche V8 back on the road then you’re going to have to strip it, rebuild it and tend to its every whim – especially when it comes to the electronics.
