William Medcalf hosts first 2018 Drive Out

Bentayga to Land Rover Series I, and everything in between; vintage Bentley specialist welcomed them all to recent gathering. Next event set for Spring 2018

William Medcalf Vintage Bentley, the leading name in vintage Bentley restoration, opened the doors to its Rogate headquarters for the first time this year on January 7. Its Drive Out event welcomed a host of classic and modern vehicles, alongside heritage motorcycles, for a coffee morning with a difference.

Set against a crisp winter sky, a wide variety of desirable classics filled the business’s premises, including the latest Bentley Bentaya, a Land Rover Series I and everything in between. Of course, the majority of exhibits were vintage Bentleys, from Le Mans racers to glamorous gentlemen’s saloons. Hundreds of classic car enthusiasts came along to enjoy the spectacle.

Besides coffee and brunch served from the Royal Automobile Club’s Pit Stop catering truck, the most delicious aspect remained the immaculate pre-war Bentleys prominently on display in the Medcalf showroom. This houses one of the world’s largest collections of vintage Bentleys – over 30 in all. Capturing the imagination of the young and the appreciation of those who know the mechanical prowess and racing legacy oozing from each design, every example drew an admiring crowd.

William Medcalf Vintage Bentley’s next Drive Out is already in the planning, for Spring 2018. Visitors will once again get the chance to experience one of the most unique motor meetings on the classic car calendar.

‘It’s great that our Drive Out meetings are a huge success, and it was fabulous to see so many cars descend on our headquarters to enjoy the day, our workshop and showroom,’ said William Medcalf himself.

‘This New Year meeting saw us relax and enjoy the surroundings of our HQ. The next meeting will see us, once again, out on the road for a Drive Out to a great destination.’

Who is William Medcalf?

An authority in all aspects of vintage Bentley ownership and restoration, William Medcalf’s name is synonymous with the respected marque. He started his professional work on Bentleys 22 years ago, and his showroom – situated on the road between Brooklands, Surrey and Goodwood, West Sussex – is the only place you need to visit to buy, sell, service and prepare a vintage Bentley from the iconic 1922-1932 era. That was when the marque was under the control of WO Bentley before Rolls-Royce purchased the company.

AutoClassics paid William Medcalf Vintage Bentley a visit to drive a very special vehicle; a 1928 4½-litre found scattered around a London house, rebuilt and kept fully original – making for a truly one-off experience.
