Vintage dragsters confirmed for Laguna Seca Spring Classic
The second annual Spring Classic at the Californian circuit will feature historic Top Fuel dragsters alongside 11 vintage race series
Vintage dragsters dating from the 1960s through to the '90s have been confirmed for the second annual Spring Classic, with the Nitro Revival headed to Laguna Seca in May.
The Nitro Revival will feature heavily on the Saturday of the three-day event and will include a gathering of vintage and restored nitromethane-powered drag cars. Iconic drivers from the drag racing community are expected also.
Already 11 series are confirmed for the May 18-20 race weekend at the renowned circuit. Most notably Can-Am, Trans-Am, Stock Cars and historic Formula Ford are confirmed along with exhibition laps for classic motorcycles.
The front-engine Top Fuel dragsters will run from push starts with period-correct starting vehicles and burnouts. There will also be a large turnout of classic street and hot rods. The Saturday event will close with a many of the cars running and revving their engines at the same time for what Nitro Revival calls a ‘Line of Fire’.
Nitro Revival’s producers Steve Gibbs said: ‘Nitro Revival is a unique car show with unique vehicles that celebrate drag racing. Laguna Seca is an iconic place with a facility that can accommodate the growth of Nitro Revival, and we are able to add a historical drag race element to their event. There is a lot of drag racing history on the Central Coast and Bay Area. Monterey also has a lot to offer as a destination.'
Senior vice president of events for Laguna Seca, Gill Campbell added: ‘Everyone who has an interest in motorsports, cars and moving entertainment will enjoy their experience at the Spring Classic that features Nitro Revival. There will be something to enjoy for all ages, from sports and Formula One race cars to historic motorcycles to the high-powered drag racers; it will be a sensory overload.’
