Unique Holden V8 Supercar up for sale
This one-off V8 Supercar, driven by some of Australia's best, is to be sold
A unique Holden V8 Supercar estate, which has been driven by some of Australia’s best racing drivers including Formula 1 race-winner Daniel Ricciardo, is on the market to be sold according to renowned Australian Touring Car dealer V8 Sleuth.
Triple Eight Race Engineering, the most successful team in Australian Supercars history and originally linked to British Touring Car Championship team Triple Eight Racing, made the Supercar-based wagon, which has primarily been used for promotional and development work since it was unveiled to the world on the Gold Coast back in 2014.

The likes of Jamie Whincup, Craig Lowndes and Steve Richards, who have over 230 Supercar wins between them and the latter two of which won this year’s Bathurst 1000, have done testing and promotional work in the car, while current Red Bull Racing F1 driver Ricciardo drove the ‘Project Sandman’ wagon at Sandown in 2016 in a Red Bull demo.
Technically the car is a title winner, as it’s based on Whincup’s 2013 Supercars title-winning VF Commodore, and initial modifications only extended to a paddle-shift version of the Albins transaxle. Triple 8 soon decided that more modifications were required, and the regular V8 engine was replaced with a 5.6-litre unit that produced more than 700bhp.
Most Triple 8 drivers have been in the car since, and last year the car had the enhanced purpose of being the test mule for the development of the twin-turbo V6 engines that will be introduced to the series this year. The engine rules will expand to allow V6 and V4 units from 2019 onwards, hence the name change of the championship to Australian Supercars.
Greg Murphy, another Supercars legend and four-time Bathurst 1000 winner, drove the Sandman with its V6 engine in a number of public demos over the weekend of ‘The Great Race’ last year. The team decided to scrap the V6 plan in April of this year, with the V8 engine being placed back in the vehicle before it goes to sale.
