The Land Rover cooked up for Jamie Oliver
It's not a turkey twizzler, but this Land Rover Defender has been Twisted to Jamie Oliver's taste
Twisted Automotive, which has a stockpile of 80 Land Rover Defenders in Yorkshire and a plan to sell them to classic Defender fans, has some famous customers, including television chef and food campaigner Jamie Oliver. He may have banned turkey twizzlers from school dinners, but he’s certainly not a member of the clan that led to the original Defender being discontinued.
The Defender supplied to Oliver was not only customised and ‘twisted’ in Twisted’s usual way, but also became a TV star itself as one of the core cast members of Oliver’s ‘Jamie Cooks Italy’ show on Channel 4, which was shown this summer.

The show involved the famous chef navigating the Mediterranean country on an adventure to find what makes Italian cuisine, you know, so Italian. On the way he also taught British viewers how to replicate dishes. So much for authenticity and Italian soul.
A Retro Edition Twister Defender was used, and the choice of vehicle came about because Oliver was in fact a fan of the company.
‘I needed a vehicle that wouldn’t let me down. Last time, I headed out in an old camper van and I spent half my time shipping parts out to save it. So, the guys gave me something that would work!’ exclaimed Oliver.
‘Me and Gennaro [Contaldo, his Italian travelling partner] had so much fun travelling around Italy, from the mountains to the beaches, picking up tips, ideas and inspiration along the way. We met some incredible characters, and had a good few laughs, too. On the recipe front, I’ve got all occasions covered – fast and slow options, simple dishes for you and a friend, family suppers, weekend treats and epic celebratory feasts.’
Twisted founder and managing director, Charles Fawcett, commented: ‘Twisted has an eclectic base of customers and followers. We build vehicles for farmers from North Yorkshire and members of royal families in the Far East, and we’re proud to count Jamie as a part of the family now.
‘One of the great appeals of this iconic vehicle is its versatility, so it’s no surprise that it looks as at home on the picturesque Mediterranean coast as it does in the muddy fields of Northern England!’
Northern England, or more precisely Yorkshire, is the location of the 80 Defenders Twisted is planning to put on the market, which you can read about here.
