RETNA graffiti artist van to be sold panel-by-panel
Julien's Auctions is to sell the panels of the Ford Econoline van decorated by LA artist, at the first ever Urban & Street Art auction in Jersey City, USA
The 2000 Ford Econoline van painted by graffiti artist and pop culture provocateur RETNA will drive onto the auction block at the Urban & Street Art sale by Julien's Auctions on Wednesday May 2 to be dismantled into panels, doors and bumpers – each available individually, at an estimated $7000 per panel.
The van was spray painted by the artist at an LA art gallery party. Born Marquis Lewis, the LA artist’s distinctive script and traditional street art graffiti work has been exhibited in renowned institutions and galleries in Los Angeles, Miami, New York, London, Hong Kong and more.

RETNA has also been commissioned by global brands Louis Vuitton, Vistajet.com and Nike for advertising and commercial work and, in 2015, he designed a Buddhist, Christian and Hindu themed art cover of Justin Bieber’s album Purpose, which depicted both hands of the pop superstar joined vertically.
The Julien's Auctions sale also includes Banksy’s 'Graffiti Rat', his famous recurring rat character spray painted aerosol and acrylic on an aluminum street sign (estimated at $40,000-$60,000); four of French street artist Invader’s signature ceramic tile mosaic artwork; Andy Warhol’s 'Marilyn Monroe' (estimate: $5000-$7000) and – wait for it – the last standing statue of a naked Donald Trump.
The sculpture depicting Trump in the flesh, 'The Emperor Has No Balls', is the last such statue remaining not vandalized or destroyed. The series of controversial and explicit statues appeared in public spaces in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Cleveland and Los Angeles weeks before the then presidential nominee was elected. It's estimated to sell between $20,000-$30,000.
The Julien's Auctions Street Art Auction takes place at the Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, NY, USA on May 2. More details here.
