Lewis Hamilton's gloves and Senna helmet help raise £27k

Over £27,000 has been raised by Silverstone Auctions for the BRDC charity, Lewis Hamilton's racing gloves and a replica Ayrton Senna helmet among the most popular lots

Silverstone Auctions has raised more than £27,000 for the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Motor Sport Charity during a fundraiser auction held duting the Silverstone Classic historic racing festival.

No fewer than 62 auction lots were donated by BRDC members, including a replica Ayrton Senna helmet, signed Daniel Ricciardo race overalls, a limited edition 'Silverstone Luffield' Chronograph watch and Lewis Hamilton’s racing gloves.

After fierce bidding from interested parties as far-flung as Australia and the United States of America, attendees and guests enjoyed a champagne reception in the presence of club members and motorsport enthusiasts, including former Olympic cyclist and racing driver Sir Chris Hoy MBE.

The BRDC Motor Sport Charity Sale marked the first of three days in which Silverstone Auctions will be active throughout the Silverstone Classics event. The three-day spectacle will see the auction house's biggest ever catalogue offered up; befitting of the circuit's 70th anniversary celebrations.

David Richards, chairman of the BRDC Motor Sport Charity commented: ‘What a fantastic auction! The quality of the lots donated and the generosity of those who bid during the sale will go a long way towards helping those who need it most in our industry.’
