Revealed! New 350bhp RPM Technik Porsche 996 conversion

The new 996 CSR EVO is the most track-focused, road-legal conversion so far from the Buckinghamshire-based Porsche experts

UK-based Porsche specialists RPM Technik have created their most track-focused road-legal 911 so far, the 996 CSR EVO. It's based on a 996 3.6 Carrera 2, with significant engine, suspension and drivetrain upgrades.

The new model, the 22nd of 28 cars either built or in-build by the company's dedicated CSR tuning division, is said to retain day-to-day practicality with increased track potential – which of course also means reduced weight and increased power.

The CSR EVO increases power to around 350bhp and reduces weight by 45kg, despite the addition of a half-rollcage. Modifications such as the IMS bearing upgrade increase longevity, while the lighter flywheel and clutch help to transform the engine response, and the suspension changes significantly sharpen the handling. The development and final testing of the car has been carried out with help from none other than 1992 BTCC and 2008 Porsche Carrera Cup Champion Tim Harvey at Castle Combe circuit.

'CSR has always been about driver-focused vehicles, but for the EVO we have really concentrated on building our most circuit-capable 996 CSR to date without reducing any of
the character and day-to-day driver ethos of the CSR,' says Darren Anderson, RPM’s commercial director.

'The engine, drivetrain and suspension have been significantly re-worked and custom front and rear bumpers have been developed to complete the package. The feel and driver feedback from the EVO is all about performance.... the bespoke CSR centre exit exhaust not only stands testament to the unique engineering in this vehicle but sounds glorious and unlike any normal Carrera!'
