RM Sotheby’s announces Petersen Automotive Museum Auction
Leading auction house is moving its flagship West Coast event to Los Angeles and the spectacular Petersen Automotive Museum
The world is full of many great combinations, such as fish and chips, salt and pepper, Torvill and Dean... A new but equally potent coupling comes in the form of RM Sotheby’s and the Petersen Automotive Museum, with the prestigious auction house coming to Los Angeles.
- Aston Martin’s ‘pinnacle achievement’ DP215 up for auction
- Petersen Museum to celebrate Japanese car culture
- Ferraris for sale on AutoClassics
RM Sotheby’s announced that its Southern Californian auction will be hosted by the Petersen Automotive Museum, a beautifully modern building that contains some of the most significant cars of the past. Bringing the pair together sounds like a great idea to us!
Between 50-60 blue-chip cars will be auctioned on Saturday, December 8, each handpicked by RM Sotheby’s global team of 30 auto specialists. The auction house is famed for offering some of the rarest and most desirable cars in the world.
August’s RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction will feature plenty of automotive royalty including a Ferrari 250 GTO, Ferrari 250 MM Berlinetta, and the famed Le Mans Aston Martin DP215. We’d expect a similar calibre of impressive cars to arrive in LA for the Petersen event.
Alexander Weaver, RM Sotheby’s car specialist, said: ‘Our Saturday auction will draw the automotive faithful for an evening of rare ownership opportunities coupled with a feast for the eyes inside the Petersen. We look forward to bringing collectors together for this special event on the West Coast as we have on the East.’
The Petersen is one of the largest automotive museums in the world, and has recently undergone a $125 million renovation. Architect Kohn Pedersen Fox created the building’s unique facade that wraps around the perimeter, which looks particularly impressive when illuminated at night.
However, what resides inside is even more spectacular. The Porsche Effect exhibit currently displays the most iconic road and race Porsches of the past 70 years. If Japanese cars are more your thing, The Roots of Monozukuri display explores the nation’s history of car manufacturing.
The RM Sotheby’s Petersen Automotive Museum Auction is set to be a spectacular event, and we eagerly await the announcement of star cars to go under the hammer.
