Rare Porsche 550A heads to auction!
One of only 39 original Porsche 550A is heading to auction with Mecum on 23-25 August during the famed Monterey Car Week
Ranking among all-time Porsche greats, any genuine Porsche 550A Spyder is worth its weight in gold. Although rarely found for sale, one of only 39 made will head under the block at Mecum's Daytime Auction in Monterey, California – and it’s got serious racing pedigree.
Clinching victory no fewer than three times during the 1958 season, this 1958 Porsche 550A-0141 Spyder found favour with driver Ernst Vogel, who just happened to be a virtuoso composer and professional concert pianist as well as a successful racer. Impressive!

After a successful European racing tour, the 550A was returned to Porsche KG, reconditioned and then sold to Connecticut Porsche dealer and serial road-racer Harry Blanchard, who entered it in SCCA regional events along the East Coast.
Today, the Porsche is owned by enthusiast Steve Terrien of Washington, who tracked the car down to a warehouse back in 1984. Over the following three decades, the vehicle underwent a comprehensive restoration, performed to exacting standards thanks to experts like the Kimmins brothers and the late Bill Doyle.
Since completion, this seldom-seen slice of automotive heritage has accrued less than 600 miles, perfectly run in for the next owner! The Porsche is currently displayed in flawless condition.
