Rare AC Aceca leads Aguttes' September sale line-up
An AC Aceca Bristol, the rare hand-built grand tourer made in the British tradition, heads the line-up for the Aguttes auction to be held near Paris later this month
A rare example of ‘the quintessential British car’, the AC Aceca Bristol, leads French auction house Aguttes’ sale line-up at Les Grandes Heures Automobiles near Paris later this month.
Leading French auction house Aguttes is putting the grand tourer hand-built in the British tradition under the hammer at the classic car event taking place in Montlhéry on Sunday September 30.
Les Grandes Heures Automobiles has become one of the major classic car meetings in Europe and this will be the second auction that Aguttes has held at the event, which takes place at the Linas-Montlhéry Autodrome – the circuit which hosted the 1925 French Grand Prix.

The AC Aceca Bristol prototype going under the hammer is formerly owned by the late Sir Antony Richard Pilkington, former chair the Pilkington group as well as a classic car collector, and is estimated to sell for €200,000 to €300,000.
The Aceca is a closed coupe produced from 1954 to 1963 by famous AC Cars Ltd. It originally had an AC engine but the similar Bristol-engine version was also available alongside it from 1956 to 1963, after which production of the engine ceased. Some 151 Acecas, 169 Aceca-Bristols and 8 Ford-engined models had been built by the time production halted.
The Aceca was based on the open two-seat AC Ace and the front-end styling of the Ace and Aceca reportedly traces back to a Pinin Farina design for AC in the late 1940s. The Aceca also was only the second car, after the 1953 Aston Martin DB2/4, to feature a hatchback at the rear.
‘This magnificent example of the AC Aceca Bristol is in many ways the quintessential British car, powerful, elegant with great handling and drivability,’ said Gautier Rossignol of Aguttes Classic Car Division.
‘It would make a fantastic addition to anyone’s collection of classic cars and be a real “head turner” at classic car events.’
As well as a range of around twenty classic cars, the Aguttes sale will also feature a “Youngtimers” category with over 30 machines for auction, including a MVS Venturi 521 Cup, Peugeot 205 Rallye, Maserati 3200 GT, Ferrari 550 Maranello, Saab 900 Cabriolet and a BMW Z1. An AC 289 also heads up the "Race Cars" category.
