Porsche No.1 to complete world tour at Rennsport Reunion
The very first Porsche will conclude its global tour in North America at Laguna Seca, attending the Rennsport Reunion before heading back home to the Porsche Museum in Germany
Porsche has a long and interesting history, but its more humble beginnings spawn from Porsche No.1 — the car that started it all. It might have begun life in Austria, but it has toured the world to help celebrate the 70th anniversary of the company from which it was born. No.1 is soon to complete its international duties and return to the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen, but before it does it has an important stop in North America.

After starring at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and numerous other celebration events in Europe, Porsche No.1 briefly went stateside for the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. From there it entered Canada for the very first time to attend the Luxury & Supercar Weekend in Vancouver. You can’t take a trip to Canada and not visit the CN tower in Toronto, so No.1 did some sightseeing near the harbour on 14th September. It’s next stop takes its stateside once again.
From 27th to 30th September the original Porsche will head to Laguna Seca for the Rennsport Reunion before heading back to Germany. Porsche has had plenty of success in America, both on road and track, so this stop marks a fitting end to the car’s world tour. If you live in North America and want to get up close and personal with a living piece of Porsche history without heading to Stuttgart, this might be your only chance. No.1 has a doppelgänger show car that will continue onto China — Porsche’s largest global market — and remain out there on display for two months.
When Ferry Porsche decided to build his own sports car, after not being able to find one he wanted to own, the Type 356 prototype was created. The idea was to forge a car that was more enjoyable to drive than its heavier competition. A mid-engined concept was created with a 35bhp flat-four at its heart. This prototype car was shown to a few German car dealers who liked it so much that they placed several preorders. Ferry and his sister Louise founded Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH and began work on the first aluminium body for car 356/1 designed by Erwin Komenda.
It’s a special car that Porsche are so proud of they wanted to world to see where it all began.
