New Bullitt Mustang 001 sold for $300,000
Ford donates car 001 to raise money for Boys Republic, the school that helped Steve McQueen as a child. Son Chad McQueen drove it onto the auction stage
VIN 001 of the limited-edition 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt has been sold for $300,000 at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale sale, with 100% of the hammer price going to Boys Republic, a school and treatment community for youth at risk, which helped Steve McQueen as a child.
McQueen graduated from Boys Republic in 1946 before becoming a successful actor. One of his best-known roles was as police detective Frank Bullitt, in the movie Bullitt, featuring one of the all-time great car chase scenes.
Ford unveiled the new limited-edition Mustang Bullitt, a modern-day homage to the Dark Highland Green 1967 Mustang Fastback used in the film, on Sunday January 15. At the same time, it revealed the ‘rediscovered’ original film car driven by McQueen.
The new Mustang Bullitt features a 5.0-litre, 475bhp V8 engine and has a top speed of 163mph.
Since its founding in 1907, Boys Republic in Chino Hills, California, has guided more than 30,000 at-risk teenage boys and girls toward productive, fulfilling lives. One hundred percent of the 2019 Mustang Bullitt sale proceeds will be provided to Boys Republic to help children in desperate need find within themselves the resources and skills to begin meaningful lives on their own.
Steve McQueen's son, Chad McQueen, drove the Mustang onto the auction stage. Barrett-Jackson have waived their premium to ensure that all $300,000 of the hammer prices goes to the charity. For more information please visit Barrett-Jackson’s auction listing.
