This example originally lived in the UK and was owned by Bubby Featherstonehaugh, a racer and Jazz musician. This beauty must have been an exotic sight on British streets that were enjoying a time of peace post World War I. About 16 years ago the Alfa Romeo migrated to New Zealand where a Mr Southward and his children began restoring the car. Coachbuilding was a huge part of motoring in the 1930s and '40s, with one model spawning multiple variants. This open-top 6C is a great example of the variety that was on offer and contrasts the Touring bodied car that won Zoute Concours d’Elegance.
Other noteworthy winners included a 1969 Maserati Ghibli Spyder for ‘Restoration of the year’, the 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale that received the ‘Spirit of Motorclassica’ trophy, and the ‘Modern Classic’ award-winning Jaguar Mk2. There were a few quirky winners in the form of a Holden Monaro GTS and BMW Isetta which won the ‘People’s Choice’ and the ‘Post War Classic Closed’ categories respectively.
