While Goodwood is the epitome of everything we embrace from pre-1966 automotive development, taking to the racetrack is ruinously expensive. Isn’t it? Buying and modifying a classic car can often result in a private fiscal cliff in which the family silverware and your children’s kidneys are pawned off for financial stability. Well, that’s not the case with this Morris Minor.

All prepped and ready to wage war throughout any classic racing series, this 1960 Moggy comes complete with a V5C document and MOT exemption. Prepared and developed over the last five years to full Goodwood Revival St. Mary’s Trophy & HRDC Touring Greats regulations, this is not an Academy specification car. This Minor is a full ‘Speedwell’ spec machine boasting a number of upgrades.
The bodyshell has been fully restored and painted in Snowberry White with an installed RollCentre roll cage and Cobra Evolution seat, sporting a Sparco six-point harness in date to end 2019. As per regulations, a passenger seat and rear bench are present, with Perspex door, side ad rear windows. Not to mention a heated screen ensuring visibility during the coldest of rallies.
Under the bonnet is a Phil Hepworth-built full race 1293cc MG Midget engine with all steel MED Engineering internals, a Swiftune camshaft and lightweight flywheel. There’s also a custom made inlet manifold and twin 1.5" SU carburetors.
Producing 125bhp and 102 ft lb of torque on dyno test, the engine has only endured 10 minutes of track time since being rebuilt. The gearbox is brand new – an MED Engineering straight cut close ratio unit – with hydraulic clutch conversion.
Not enough for you? The brakes boast MG Midget discs and calipers with Carbon Lorraine pads and lightweight racing drums on the rear. There’s also competition spec front torsion bars, adjustable tie-rods and camber adjusted lower arms.
The current owner was invited to Goodwood’s 73rd Member’s Meeting, along with the Bromyard Festival of Speed, with the Morris Minor. With huge potential and filled with all the right bits, at £18,000 ($23,000, €20,400) this could be the cheapest potential entry to both the Goodwood Member’s Meerings and Revival – especially as the 2019 Revival is the event for 1950s saloons in the coveted St.Mary’s Trophy.
It’s fast, it’s neat and unbelievable agile. It may look like a Morris Minor, but the classic shifts like a scalded cat up velcro curtains. That should to attract attention from the selection committee…
