Kurt Cobain's 1965 Dodge Dart to be displayed in Ireland!
This is the only car known to have been owned by rock star Kurt Cobain – and it's going to be part of a new exhibition of his personal effects in Ireland from July 19
The only car that Nirvana's Kurt Cobain is known to have owned is coming to Ireland in July as part of a special display of his personal effects, including his clothing and his art. The powder blue 1965 Dodge Dart will be displayed at the Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge, Ireland, from July 19 to September 30.
The ‘Growing Up Kurt Cobain’ exhibition has been personally curated by the Cobain family, and its opening will be attended by Kurt’s mother Wendy O’Connor, his sisters Kim Cobain and Olivia O’Connor and daughter Frances Bean Cobain.

The exhibition has come about due to a friendship between William Doyle, owner of the Museum of Style Icons, and the family. Cobain made much of his Irish roots, and believed that his family originated in County Cork – though in fact his Irish ancestors emigrated from Carrickmore, County Tyrone, in 1875.
The exhibition will include Kurt’s drawings and sketches along with clothing (including the sweater worn in Nirvana's video Smells Like Teen Spirit), hand-written lyrics and of course the 1965 Dodge Dart. The picture below (courtesy of Photofest) shows Cobain performing on stage at MTV Unplugged.
Daughter Frances Bean Cobain, said: 'I am so thrilled to participate and support my family as they honour their brother and son at The Museum of Style Icons in Ireland. I have always been the most intimately informed of who my father was by my grandmother and aunts. I am so ecstatic that their view of who Kurt was gets to be celebrated with Nirvana fans the world over.'
William Doyle, owner of the Museum of Style Icons, added: 'These items have never previously been seen by the public and it’s an incredible honour to be a part of this amazing exhibition. We have handled exhibitions of Michael Jackson, Cher, Prince and many other music and fashion icons and we expect this exhibition of Kurt’s life to be one of our greatest exhibitions curated by our museum.'
Kurt’s sister, Kim Cobain, concludes: 'With this exhibition we hope to bring the focus back to Kurt’s roots, vision, and artistic genius to inspire everyone not to lose their creativity and childlike wonder.'
This is the first time that the Cobain family has shown Kurt's personal effects, so the exhibition is expected to be highly successful. When the exhibition ends at The Museum of Style Icons in Ireland it will continue at The Museo de la Moda in Santiago Chile.
The pictures above are from the Cobain family, and (in order) show Kurt on 15 April 1975, on Christmas Eve 1984, and in 1986.
