The Ford Escort RS Cosworth comes from an era of ‘win on Sunday, sell on Monday’ with fans of rally being able to go out and buy a road-legal example of this WRC hero. This turbocharged homologation special has become an icon appreciated all over the world, something that lead to automotive gymnast Ken Block to buying one.

Sadly, his motorsport equipped ‘Cossie’ crashed and burned earlier this year. Block missed it so much that he's procured another.

More great Fords!

Announced on his official Facebook page, this all-new Group A Escort Cosworth is to improve upon the design of his previous car and take on rally stages around the world during 2019.

You’ll be able to follow the Escort’s progress via Block’s ‘Hoonigan’ social media channels as it takes on some of his favourite rallying events. The car itself has yet to be revealed, but we’d expect that announcement to come soon.

Derived from the Sierra Cosworth, the Escort RS featured a 227bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and permanent all-wheel drive. Ken’s previous Cosworth was far from standard with 395bhp and 405lb-ft of torque sent to the ground via a modern seven-speed sequential gearbox.

While competing in the the New England Forest Rally the American driver was clinging on to third position with a gearbox issue, only for a much bigger problem to emerge on the following stage. The car clipped a rock that sent the rally car tumbling off the road, with Block and co-driver Alex Gelsomino escaping the wreckage before it burst into flames.

Before becoming a very costly historic BBQ, the Cosworth was set to compete in the Idaho International Rally. We’re hoping that the drifting star will get to check those items off his to-do list next year with this new car — hopefully with it still one in piece by the end.
