Ford GT Once Owned By John Cena Listed For Sale... Again

The same 2017 Ford GT that caused a lot of commotion following its initial sale, is once again up for sale, and is returning to Mecum to find a new home

John Cena’s Ford GT became somewhat notorious when the 2017 model was sold, and Ford sued him for breaching the no-sale contract included when he bought the car. After a dramatic legal battle with the automaker, Cena tapped out and settled with Ford - meanwhile, the car in question had moved on. Now, the '17 Ford GT that started it all is back up for auction, and one has to wonder if all this controversy actually makes the car worth more money…

More on the Ford GT...

The striking blue GT is a car most wouldn’t mind owning, with or without the drama attached to this particular example. New, it would dig about half a million dollars deep into a buyer’s pockets, and involve a very lengthy application that comes with stipulations and contracts (as Cena knows all too well). Because of how hard it is to get one, some drivers hungry to own one won’t bat an eye at paying double, or even triple the original sales price.

When this car was first sold through Mecum, it pulled in $1.7 million, and the GT went on to trade hands several more times - the latest time being a sale on the lower side of $1.32 million, much less than the $1.54 million that it sold for the time before.

So when it goes up for sale again, once more through Mecum, will it regain some value or continue to trend downwards? As of now, it’s anyone’s guess, and other examples tend to sell for more at auction, and much less when exchanging hands on a more private platform.

Controversy aside, the 2017 Ford GT in question is painted in Liquid Blue metallic, and powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. Behind the engine is a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission, and it funnels 647-horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. The American made supercar also only has 635 miles on the clock, so it’s barely through its break-in period.
