New display of French coachbuilt cars at Mullin Museum
‘Best in the world’ Bugatti Atlantic and Talbot Lago return to the renowned Mullin Automotive Museum for a new exhibition of French coachbuilding
The star cars of collector Peter Mullin are to return to the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, California for a new exhibition entitled ‘L’époque des Carrossiers: The Art and Times of the French Coachbuilders’ on April 14.
The exhibition will explore the greatest vehicles of the French coachbuilding era, highlighting the works of pre-eminent French builders such as Bugatti, Citroën, De Villars, Figoni et Falaschi, Henri Chapron, Henri Labourdette, Million, Guiet & Cie., Pourtout, Jacques Saoutchik, Vanvooren, and Gabriel Voisin.
The two crown jewels of the Mullin collection will be the centrepiece. They are the 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic (named the 2018 Best of the Best winner), shown above, and the 1937 Talbot-Lago T150-C SS ‘Goutte d’Eau’ (teardrop), which won the ‘Best of the Best’ prize in 2016, below.
The Bugatti was last at the museum in November 2015, and the Talbot-Lago left in April 2015, appearing at events around the world, with just a brief stint back at the Mullin in late 2016 and early 2017.
Other concours-winning vehicles such as the 1938 Dubonnet Hispano-Suiza H6B Xenia by Jacques Saoutchik, the revolutionary 1934 Voisin Type C27 Aérosport Coupé and the 1939 Delahaye Type 165 Cabriolet by Figoni et Falaschi, will feature, along with sculpture, artefacts and vehicles from the Mullin Museum’s permanent collection.
‘Our new exhibit will showcase the sublime beauty and artistry of France’s finest coachbuilt cars,’ said Peter Mullin (below), founder and CEO of the Mullin Automotive Museum.
‘The display highlights the nuanced details and elegant craftsmanship that define and distinguish each of the coachbuilders from one another. The elegant cars paired with their rich and diverse stories will create a captivating educational experience on the coachbuilt genre.’
L’époque des Carrossiers will open on April 14, 2018. To buy tickets visit the Mullin Automotive Museum website.
