This brash 1966 Ford Bronco restomod is surprisingly tasteful

Walking the fine line between preserving originality and packing a bigger punch is a tough balancing act when restomodding – but this Bronco hits the sweet spot

Taste can be a very personal thing, and in the automotive world, the more you customise a car the more likely it is disagree with someone else’s personal ideal of a good looking car. So when a vehicle is described as being ‘Ginger Ale’ colour, you have to admire the ambition, but also question the motive.

This custom-built 1966 Ford Bronco SUV-style pick-up truck has an all-steel body with, amongst other things, unique fender flares, hood bulge and bumpers, two-tone Ginger Ale-coloured metallic paint with a Golden Amber pearl finish, a Billet Specialties Tru Trac serpentine kit and Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers.

More classic rugged restomods

Like many Ford Bronco restomods, it's big and it's brash. Yet, it's surprisingly tasteful at the same time. We could easily see this Bronco bashing its way through a wall to announce itself to a stunned crowd – and yet, the details on this restored example appear well refined.

There's a 302ci V8 Ford Racing crate engine, coupled to a Bowler 4R70W four-speed automatic transmission for power. For control, it boasts a 5.5 inch James Duff lift system, Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, Bilstein 7100 Series reservoir shocks and multi-link front suspension, so it'll perform its off-roading duties in style.

Other features which the vendor notes include a nine inch rear end with a custom skid plate, a Dana 30 front end, a custom 2.5 inch exhaust with headers, and its Recovery Room Hot Rod interior.

The interior is another ambitious combination of design, with fabric inlay and suede headliner leather seats, a 1940 Ford Deluxe steering wheel, Ford F-100 dash, classic instrument gauges and Boom Mat sound-deadening, presumably for all that muffling. It all sounds a bit mismatched on paper, but the look works.

If you want to buy this one-off Bronco, Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale sale next January 12-20 is the place to be.
