Emerson Fittipaldi to drive McLaren at Goodwood Festival of Speed

The 1974 F1 world champion will be joined by Mike Hakkinen and current McLaren drivers at the 25th running of the famous hillclimb event

F1 world champion and two-time Indy 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi is to drive a McLaren up the Goodwood hill during the Festival of Speed, which takes place July 12-15, 7am-7pm each day.

Fittipaldi, who won the 1974 world title with McLaren, will be joined by current McLaren star Stoffel Vandoorne, and test/reserve driver Lando Norris. Vandoorne is in his second full season with the team while 18-year-old F2 driver Norris is a member of McLaren’s Young Driver Programme, having won the European F3 title last season.

Double F1 world champion Mika Hakkinen, who won titles for McLaren in 1998 and 1999, will also be in attendance at the Festival of Speed.

The 2003 Indy 500 champion and adviser to the McLaren team, Gil De Ferran, and Rudy Van Buren, winner of McLaren World’s Fastest Gamer competition, will also be taking part at the Festival with McLaren. Van Buren beat more than 30,000 contestants in the esports event last year and is now one of the McLaren F1 team’s official simulator drivers for the 2018 season.
