Classics for sale: 1977 Jaguar XJ-C
This Jaguar XJ Coupe is in need of some restoration work, but it might be an ideal project in the XJ's 50th year. It even has a vinyl roof!
The Jaguar XJ is celebrating 50 years of service in 2018, so what better excuse to go and buy one? These British barges have spawned many incarnations over the decades, some of which represent an absolute bargain on the secondhand market. We feel the Jaguar XJ-C is one of the most handsome and a recent search has found one that could prove to be good value if you’re willing to put some work into it.
A mint-condition Jaguar XJ Coupe can command over £25,000 at the moment, but search for one that might need a little bit of TLC and things become much more affordable. This XJ-C on Ebay might just be one of those cars with a starting bid of £10,000.

The advert freely admits that this 1977 Series 2 car is in need of some restoration as it has been garaged for the past 15 years. The best part of that statement is that it has been kept in a garage and not out in the elements. Its owner suspects that the Jag might need a new floor, which for anyone who’s a bit handy with welding gear shouldn’t be too much of a problem. However, if you lack the talents to fix it yourself, it could become a pricey fix. The only other reported bodywork issue is some minor rust at the base of the driver’s door.
This 170bhp 4.2-litre Jaguar still looks great with its unusual pillarless door arrangement making for an elegant sculpture. There’s 90,000-miles on the clock with this particular car believed to be one of just over 2,600 produced with a vinyl roof in period.
The current owner has been in possession of the XJ-C for 25 years and is reluctantly selling due to ill health. In the years when it was running regularly it often attended classic car events. If you’re willing to put some work into this Jaguar XJ-C, it might prove to be a worthwhile investment in time and money.
