Classics for sale: Rare Aston Martin DB4 Vantage

Bond's DB5 owes everything to its predecessor, the Aston Martin DB4. This Series 5 car is one of a few to possesses a potent Vantage engine

The Aston Martin DB5 might get all of the fame being Bond’s car of choice, but it was the DB4 that really took the fight to European GT rivals. This beautifully restored Series 5 Aston Martin DB4 Vantage in our classifieds is a sterling example of David Brown’s vision of Britannia ruling more than just the waves.

More on Aston Martin…

Stunning isn’t it? This truly handsome classic GT cast the mould for the DB5 with its lightweight Superleggera body and Italian styling from Carrozzeria Touring. Elegant curves, proud bonnet, and those wire wheels make for quite the sculpture. Its refined silver exterior is contrasted by a deep red leather interior that looks like it has hardly been sat in. However, this car is more than just easy on the eye.

This 1963 example has been restored by Aston Engineering, with every inch of the car receiving the attention required to bring it back to showroom condition. Being a Vantage model, it has a more potent 266bhp 4.2-litre engine featuring improved cylinder heads an SU carburettors. It is believed just 136 coupe models left the Aston factory with the Vantage engine. The easiest way to pick out a Vantage is by looking at its headlights that possess the same rounded cover as a DB4 GT.

As this is a Series 5, rear passengers can enjoy a little more legroom than its predecessor thanks to a longer chassis. There’s also a little more head room too with the roofline being higher than earlier models.

This Aston Martin DB4 Vantage is listed for £525,000 and has covered just 2,000-miles since its restoration. Considering its rarity and immaculate condition, it might even be a better investment than shares in Aston Martin itself.
