Bugatti Chiron ‘Sky View’ to make debut at Monterey Car Week
Bugatti engineers have been doing some blue-sky thinking and come up with a new clear-roof option for the 1479bhp supercar
The Bugatti Chiron is a wonder of modern engineering, being capable of reliably reaching its electronically limited top speed of 261mph day-in, day-out. As if the appeal of this hypercar wasn’t enough, Bugatti is adding an optional ‘Sky View’ glass roof.
- Bugatti Chiron: 0-400-0km/h in 42 seconds!
- Aston Martin’s ‘pinnacle achievement’ DP215 up for auction at Monterey
- Bugattis for sale on AutoClassics
Set to make its debut at Monterey Car Week next month, the Bugatti Chiron with Sky View roof will offer owners more style and some added sunshine while driving.
The laminated panels sit over each seat and replace the solid-aluminium roof section. They are specially designed to reflect the heat of the sun and keep the cabin cool in the traditionally hot climates in which many Chirons reside. There’s also a special layer in these windows to keep out harmful UV rays, as with a pair of sunglasses.
The Chiron’s cabin is a beautiful, handcrafted environment, and allowing more natural light inside only serves to better show it off. It is also a very quiet place on the move, which is something engineers have worked hard to preserve with the Sky View option.
Overall performance and structural rigidity remain the same, meaning that the Chiron still accelerates from 0-62mph in a scarcely believable 2.4 seconds. Meanwhile, 0-124mph comes and goes in 6.5 seconds, with 0-186mph vanquished in an astonishing 13.6 seconds.
The Bugatti can achieve this incredible performance thanks to its 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine. While its top speed is limited, the Chiron is capable of going much faster – but at this point in time there isn’t a tyre that will stand up to the punishment.
Pricing for the Sky View option has yet to be announced, but we’d expect it to be a costly box to tick on top of the car’s £2.5 million price tag. Something we do know for sure is that an even more extreme Chiron Divo is on the way. That car is expected to make its official debut at Pebble Beach.
