Aston Martin to make 25 'Bond' DB5 continuation cars
The dream of owning 007's high-tech Aston Martin DB5 is becoming a reality for 25 lucky customers...
Aston Martin has announced that it will make 25 continuation versions of the iconic DB5 that appeared in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger. These models will come with gadgets as per the movie car, and will be built as Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell, the original home of the DB5.
The manufacturing of the limited run of cars will be done in collaboration with EON Productions, the company that produces the James Bond film series. Aston Martin have already built continuations of the DB4 GT, which have been designed to run on race tracks across the world, and EON's work on enhancing cars with spy gadgetry has been mastered over many Bond films.

All 25 will be authentic reproductions of the DB5 car seen in Goldfinger, with some sympathetic modifications to ensure the modern standards of build quality and reliability. The functioning gadgets, which include the famous revolving number plates, will will be co-developed with Academy Award winner Chris Corbould, special effects supervisor from the James Bond films. Officially sanctioned by Aston Martin and EON Productions, all the Goldfinger edition cars will be produced to one specification, in Silver Birch, just like the original.
Goldfinger was the third official Bond movie made, featuring Sean Connery as 007. Laden with gadgets and armaments installed by Q Branch, the secret agent’s Aston Martin became an instant icon. The DB5 has reappeared in the 'Bond' franchise thanks to its popularity, being seen on screen with Connery again in Thunderball (1965), with Pierce Brosnan in GoldenEye (1995) and Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), and in the last three 'Bond' films Casino Royale (2006), Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015), all featuring Daniel Craig.
Each Goldfinger DB5 continuation car will be priced at £2.75m plus taxes, with first deliveries to customers expecting to commence in 2020. A further three cars will be built – one each for EON and Aston Martin, plus another to be auctioned for charity. None of them will be road legal. The cars will have the original design of DOHC straight-six, 3995cc engine, which has an output of 282bhp at 5500rpm, and gives a top speed of 148mph (always useful in a continental car chase) and a 0-60mph time of 7.1 seconds.
For those who cannot afford it or are simply too young to drive, there is also the option of the Corgi diecast model, of which an astonishing 2.5 million were sold in its first year of production in 1965.
'The connection between Aston Martin and James Bond is something of which we are very proud and it is remarkable that the DB5 remains the definitive James Bond car after so many years,' said Andy Palmer, CEO of Aston Martin.
'To own an Aston Martin has long been an aspiration for James Bond fans, but to own a Silver Birch DB5, complete with gadgets and built to the highest standards in the very same factory as the original James Bond cars? Well, that is surely the ultimate collectors’ fantasy.
'The skilled craftspeople at Aston Martin Works and the expert special effects team from the James Bond films are about to make this fantasy real for 25 very lucky customers.'

A stunning and rare piece of Speedway history. The Staride was designed and built by Mike Erskine, who later went on to build Formula 3 (500cc) racing cars at his workshop in Southampton. The Staride featured the 5 stud JAP engine cradled in a hand built Erskine frame, and was a classic and minimalist design that all speedway bikes adhere to, even to this day. This lovely example has a name pla
