947 cars turn up for Beaulieu Simply Japanese
Beaulieu's Simply Japanese show celebrated the land of the rising sun in the pouring rain – with nearly 1000 cars and more than 2000 visitors
Beaulieu's Simply Japanese rally attracted 947 Japanese cars of all varieties and 2099 participants on Sunday, which also attracted some typical British rain.
The grounds of the National Motor Museum were used to display a huge array of Japanese cars, ranging from showroom models to rare classics.

Show-goers were able to choose their favourite vehicles in the People's Choice Award, which went to Kyle Miller's modified 1990 Mazda MX-5.
'I’ve done a lot of work to the car. It was green with a beige interior when I bought it,' said Kyle, who has owned the car for a year. 'I love the new grey paintwork and black upholstery, while I also converted it from an automatic to a manual gearbox and fitted air suspension.'
He was presented with a trophy and an Autoglym car care pack as prizes.
Savontharam Jeganathan and Kevin Curtis were the two runner-ups. Kevin's 1981 Datsun Bluebird GL was a unique example of a rarely-seen saloon. 'I got in touch with the car’s first owner listed on the logbook, who sent me all of the car’s original paperwork, including old warranty certificates and tax discs,' said Kevin.
Savontharam’s 2008 Nissan GT-R was newer than the name suggested, having recently imported the carbon fibre bodywork lightweight special from Japan.
As much as the event was about individual owners, it was the presence of the Japanese car clubs that really made the show. Well represented clubs included ones dedicated to the Toyota Celica coupe, Nissan ‘Z’ sports cars, the Mazda Bongo campervan and the iconic Subaru Imprezas.
Other cars on show included Mitsubishi Evolution sports saloons, the self-explanatory Nissan Cube and a first generation Mazda RX-7 in yellow and red racing colours.
