Retro police cars lead Christmas classic car auction

Barons is holding an auction just in time for some last minute automotive Christmas shopping. Make sure there's space in your garage

If you still haven’t started your Christmas shopping yet, don’t worry. Barons is holding a Christmas Classic sale at Sandown Park race course on December 11 for all the automotive gems you could possibly want to give or receive as a present.

Fans of Dickensian ghost stories will love this 1921 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, but if you're looking for something more lighthearted, how about a ‘panda’ police car? A 1968 Morris Minor that was previously used by Scotland Yard, this car has since undergone a bare shell restoration. There’s also a 1963 Morris Mini Van in the sale, which played a police vehicle on ITV drama Heartbeat. Both are valued at under £10,000 ($12,850).

More British classics...

For those wanting a classic British Christmas, there are three 1930s Vauxhalls on offer, a 1933 Cadet and two BXL Grosvenor limousines. One still has its World War II army number, and the other is one of just nine built to Westminster specification. The guide price for both is £17,000 ($21,840).

Christmas time is popular for weddings, and there are two rare Austin Princess Vanden Plas Limousines that would make perfect wedding cars. The 1954 model escaped taxi conversion, while the 1960 model is a special Landaulet model (£14,000, $18,000). Another strong pick for a wedding car is the 1952 Humber Pullman, believed to be one of only eight left in existence, and a bargain at an estimate £12,000 - £15,000 ($15,500 - $19,250).

Not everybody wants something classic and civilised for christmas, and the Barons sale satisfies their needs with a 115hp 1974 Audi 100S Coupé imported from South Africa, a low-mileage 1982 Alfa Romeo GTV6, recommissioned by an Alfa specialist five years ago and still with its original Busso V6 engine. Although only just a decade old, a 2007 Aston Martin DB9 is also part of the sale, a modern classic at £28,000 - £32,000 ($36,000 - $41,000).

Some of the best Christmas presents aren’t the newest or the flashiest, but were the forgotten gifts of someone else. This 1973 BMW 2002 Baur Convertible ‘barn-find’ has not started for five years, but is a targa top classic, mechanically sound and in need of some care and restoration. For more information on all these lots, visit Barons’ website.
