Amazing cutaway Corvette joins Scottsdale sale line-up

A series of rare and collectible Chevrolets are to be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson at the annual Scottsdale auctions, in Arizona, USA, which are held 13-21 January 2018.

A key example from the sale is one of just 69 Chevrolet Camaros originally bought with COPO option pack 9560 – an option pack offered to avoid internal politics. Parent company GM had ordered Chevrolet not to supply cars with engines over 400ci, so Chevrolet neatly circumnavigated the issue by making the performance ZL1 model an option pack that could be fitted to any standard Camaro.

At $7269 new, it was almost twice the cost of a standard cast iron V8 Camaro. Number 50 of the run, the Hugger Orange ZL1 consigned to the sale features an all-aluminium 427ci V8, original steel wheels and an NC8 chambered exhaust – the only ZL1 to be ordered with this option.

A unique Corvette Sting Ray cutaway will also be part of the Barrett-Jackson entry list. The car began as a Le Mans Blue coupe in 1965, with a white interior. It was shipped to a specialist company for conversion into a show exhibit, including rams which would lift the body almost two feet from the chassis to show its hidden technical points of interest.

Areas of the body were also cut away to highlight specific points. The engine and drivetrain were painted red, the car received transparent valve covers and areas of the engine were cut away to show its internals. The car was modified to run at just a few revolutions per second in order that onlookers could observe the processes.

An original 1957 Chevrolet 150 will join the cars above in the Barrett-Jackson consignment for Scottsdale. VIN no 002 and wearing body number one, this is a very original example that has never been restored. Its original owner drove it until 1986, when at the age of 98 he gave up driving.

All the paperwork from his ownership is still present, including the original bill of sale. The six-cylinder 235ci engine has never been rebuilt, and the black/silver interior has never been replaced. It was resprayed in its original colour scheme of Code 807 Onyx Black with India Ivory in 1991, and has covered just 47,030 miles.

A full list of available vehicles will be published on the {Barrett-Jackson website](https://www.barrett-jackson.com/). Vehicles are still being consigned.
