The most exciting Alfa Romeo ever is headed to auction next year!
One of only five Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinettas built will star as an auction highlight during Rétromobile 2019. But how much will it go for?
Salon Retromobile opens the international show calendar every year, with the official auction – organised by Artcurial Motorcars – setting the pace within the collectors’ car market. With 2019 fast approaching, the event is set to raise the bar by including various exotic marques and models.
For starters, the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta presented in the sale comes with transparent history. Delivered new to the first custodian in Italy back in 1939, the Alfa was transported onto British soil a year later, since then it has ben owned by just four collectors.

In 1976, the father of the current owner acquired the vehicle to satisfy his lust for sports cars of a bygone era. His son was present on the day he bought it, 42 years ago, and has remained in the family ever since.
Just five examples of the Berlinetta were built by the Italian coachbuilder Touring, responsible for the most flamboyant variants on any of Alfa’s designs. As such, asking prices remain eye-watering.
Along with the Bugatti Atlantic, the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta epitomises all that was magnificent about pre-war design. Not only can the Berlinetta lay claim to being one of the 20th Century’s finest creations, but the vehicle can also boast a prestigious line-up of concours awards. In fact, the 1939 Alfa can trumpet perhaps the most celebrated classic car award ever; victor at the Concours d’Élégance at Pebble Beach in the United States.
Auction estimates are difficult to speculate, but considering a 1939 Alfa Romeo C 2900B Lungo Spider by Touring sold for a whopping $19,800,000 back in 2016, we’d expect the final hammer price to breach $20 million…
