Rule Britannia Concours announced for Monterey
The Brits are coming to Monterey Car Week, with a new concours event unveiled specifically for classic UK marques
Monterey Car Week features scores of concours events. There are shows for German automobiles, purely Porsches and Italian exotica, not to mention The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering and the anchor tenant of the week, the Pebble Beach Concours, among many others.
All of these fabulous events show off tremendous automobiles and are great in their own right, but there’s always been a missing link during the August extravaganza – an all-British concours. It’s a surprising omission, especially as the Brits really introduced the idea of sports cars to the US, with the MG T.
Now, though, things are set to change.
Enter the Rule Britannia Concours. For 2018, there’s finally an all-British concours to round out the week of fantastic cars. According to the event’s website, the Rule Britannia Concours launch event will be held on Tuesday August 21 from 10am until 5pm, at the Laguna Seca Golf Ranch.

Event founder Bill Highland, owner of restoration shop On The Road Again Classics, said: ‘We’re going to have a big, fat party! It’ll be an upscale cocktail party with classic British cars, plus new models from Jaguar, Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce, Bentley… whoever chooses to step up.’
This year’s bash will essentially be a preview of what the event will become in 2019; the delay in the arrival of the full-blown Rule Britannia Concours is due to some logistical issues with the city that still need to be worked out.
Welcoming all British car owners, such a show has been long needed at Monterey, so it’s great to finally see someone such as Highland stepping up to make it happen.
If you’re attending this year’s Monterey Car Week, be sure to drop by the Rule Britannia Concours party on Tuesday. Better still, get involved at ground level with this event, which will help make Monterey Car Week even better than before.
