It was in 1958 that Ferrari decided to introduce a replacement for the 250 Cabriolet Series I, the more luxurious Series II. Of that, the California Spider was the more sporting version, appealing to enthusiasts who wanted more than just a good-looking, plush Italian roadster. That history has been well-preserved in this example, which is numbers-matching and comes with the original books, tool roll, and all the restoration records.
The pedigree for this Ferrari is nothing short of impressive. Well-known collectors are included in the provenance, plus the car has been featured at some of the top exhibitions like Concorso Italiano in California and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It also boasts true motorsports experience, having achieved class wins at Sebring and Le Mans. The responsive chassis paired with a lively V12 engine and three Weber downdraft carburetors made this car a formidable competitor.
A mere 106 California Spiders were built by Ferrari from 1957 to 1963. Of those, only 50 were long-wheelbase (LWB) models. The fact this one has the covered headlights makes it even more desirable, as only 38 were ever made. While not being the original color, this Ferrari does wear a period-correct Grigio Vinovo metallic-grey, which drapes the finely crafted panels elegantly. Every detail, outside and in, matches the original specifications of the car, making this easily one of the best examples of this model in existence today.
