CR7 may be breaking world record prices when he switches teams, but his old car can be bought for a tuppence by comparison
In the age of footballer extravagance which he epitomises, Cristiano Ronaldo’s automotive beginnings are low key. The Portuguese star, who currently plays for Juventus in Italy, has had a host of supercars, but his first car was a small Audi S3 quattro, which is now going up for sale.
More on Audi...
The first generation S3 is the sporty version of the A3 family car, and came with three doors and a 1.8-litre inline-four engine capable of 207bhp and a top speed of almost 150mph. But these kinds of performance figures aren’t unusual for early 2000s Audis, with even the A6 estate capable of outdragging most cars at the traffic lights.
Registered initially in Lisbon, and accompanied with a official document showing Ronaldo’s name, it is believed that he either purchased or was gifted this car while playing for Sporting Lisbon in his formative years, and sold it on not long after joining Manchester United for £12.24 million in 2003. At the time, he was the most expensive teenage footballer in the world.
As Ronaldo moved on to higher value cars, increased in value as a player and played more and more, his Audi S3 continued to rack up road time and value. It’s been driven over 162,000 kilometres, and after appearing on the market a few times in the last few years, its starting price is now €20,000 (£18,000, $22,500).
We expect bidding to be competitive, what with the massive fanbase that the 33-year-old worth €100,000,000 has. Will this drive up the price of S3s across the board? Probably not, though at least you can claim you drive the same car Ronaldo does.
