As far as legitimate barn finds go, they don’t get any better than a 100% original Jaguar E-type boasting low mileage and long ownership
Imagine coercing a rusted garage door to swing open, the low-hanging winter sun gently carving a lunging outline of distended curves only Jaguar's E-type can offer. The stuff of dreams? Well, that’s what this online seller experienced a short while back.
Stumbling upon a legitimate barn find, with only 51,000km recorded on the odometer and boasting one owner for the last 37 years, this automatic 1966 Jaguar 2+2 Coupe proves that there are plenty of desirable classics out there waiting patiently to be rediscovered. Now, with an asking price of £26,000 – the big cat is up for sale.
More Jaguar E-types!
This one even had period correct wire wheels, a black paint scheme and contrasting brown leather interior for the ultimate throwback in chic 1960s design. With matching numbers over the engine block and cylinder head, it’s further evidence that 100% complete examples were rolled into storage decades ago and now yearn for the open road.
As a project for those with Jaguar know-how, this desirable beast shouldn’t prove to need a huge amount of work, thanks largely to the outright lack of rust. Dry stored in an already favourable climate, the tin worm hasn’t possessed an opportunity to spread from wing to panel, as less fortunate examples have suffered.
As such, a thorough clean both inside and out should reveal an E-type in remarkably original condition. The cabin remains infested with mold spores and the carpets appear to have provided refuge for several decades of dust, but a deep cleansing session should bring the interior back to life.
The same story goes for under the bonnet, with engine components coated in grime and filth. You’d want to flush the radiator and give the engine and automatic gearbox a full service before so much as trying to start the 4.2-litre XK powerplant, but after a shakedown, you could just have the easiest barn find restoration of Britain’s finest car on your hands.
