One of the most beautiful cars of all time, this Pininfarina designed Alfa Romeo is being sold for $40,000 in our classifieds
The Alfa Romeo Spider does what it says on the tin, and does it well. Naming its iconic spyder the ‘Spider’ (and sometimes ‘Duetto’) is as simplistic and unpretentious a move as the car it represented.
Built with a 104bhp 1600cc DOHC engine with two twin choke Weber carburettors and a five-speed gearbox, it also featured a body designed by the legendary Pininfarina. Good looks and good mechanics made for a good drive, especially with coil springs and disc brakes on all four wheels.
More on Alfa Romeo...
So popular was the design, it changed very little from 1966 to ‘93, the years of the Spider’s production, and the original ‘boattail’ (Duetto) shape is still renowned for its beauty. This Series I model in our classifieds was built in 1967, and has been driven for many summers, totalling up to 55,275 miles.
The car was originally green, not our first choice, but a restoration of the vehicle 17 years ago brought about a colour change to a sharp red. A proper Alfa Romeo colour if ever there was one. The interior has kept its class, with a wood-lined dashboard, but the vendor has said that can be changed.
The aforementioned restoration covered all areas of the car, including new tyres, shocks, clutch, brakes, radiator, fuel pump and starter motor. These repairs have been a necessity due to the number of miles this car has covered, but it has been garage kept and looked after during its time on the road.
Details on the removable hard top are light in the classified advert, but pictures show it to be in good condition, and a must if driving in the current winter weather. The asking price for this classic Alfa Romeo is $40,000 (£31,080, €35,090), a low price for what looks to be a well maintained car.
