Famous toy car maker Hot Wheels’ 50th anniversary has been marked with the release of special commemorative stamps showing some of its wacky concepts from over time

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hot Wheels, the iconic die-cast company that has fired many children’s imaginations, the US Postal Service has issued a pane of 20 Forever stamps showcasing some of the classic brand's most outrageous designs.

The stamps feature 10 iconic toy cars from Hot Wheels’ past and come in a sheet of 20 which are now on sale for $10 a sheet. This is the first time Hot Wheels has been commemorated on Forever stamps.

Arranged in diagonal rows, the 20 stamps showcase photographer Len Rizzi's images of 10 of the Hot Wheels cars speeding on the famous Hot Wheels orange track. Each stamp features the name of the vehicle in one of the top corners and the words ‘USA’ and ‘Forever’ in one of the bottom corners. The instantly-recognisable Hot Wheels logo appears in the top right corner of the pane while the back of the pane displays the Hot Wheels' 50th anniversary logo.

The Hot Wheels cars depicted on the stamps are (on the top row left to right above) Purple Passion from 1990; Rocket-Bye-Baby from 1971; Rigor Motor from 1994; Rodger Dodger from 1974; Mach Speeder from 2018; (on the bottom row left to right above) Twin Mill from 1969; Bone Shaker from 2006; HW40 from 2008; Deora from 1968; and The Sharkruiser from 1987.

Each car is featured on two stamps making 20 stamps in total. The stamps were issued during the Goodguys 26th Summit Racing Lone Star Nationals at Texas Motor Speedway.

‘Today, we make history as the Postal Service and our partners at Mattel are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hot Wheels with these dynamic stamps showcasing the iconic toys that were a part of my childhood and that of my children,’ said US Postal Service marketing vice president Steve Monteith when the stamps were issued. Monteith also served as the dedicating official.

‘These miniature works of art truly capture the thrill and excitement of these legendary vehicles and now will speed their way as Forever stamps on millions of cards and letters.’
