And it's happening soon! July 29 at Bicester Heritage for what promises to be a sell-out British take on the cult Porsche show (if you're wondering, 'luftgekühlt' means air-cooled)
Luftgekühlt is coming to the UK! In the USA, this has become a cult Porsche happening, initially working from locations only revealed just before the event – and attracting the area's best Porsches and most important Porsche personalities.
The UK event will take place on Sunday 29 July at Bicester Heritage, based around the HQ there of Porsche specialists Sports Purpose (below) – and only air-cooled Porsches will be allowed on the site, though water-cooled Porsches and non-Porsches will be able to park on the adjacent airfield.
The event was the brainchild of factory Porsche racer Patrick Long. This year, the fifth Luftgekühlt took place in a timber yard (main picture), in Torrance, California, and attracted every type of 356, 911, 912, 914, and 930 model you can think of, including one of the earliest-known cars, alloy-bodied Gmünd 356/2-063, as well as George Follmer’s Can-Am 917.
The UK event is expected to sell out quickly. Tickets are available from the Lüftgekuhlt website. It takes place around the Sports Purpose buildings in the Motor Transport Yard of the magnificent Bicester Heritage site, taking a similar format to the highly popular Sunday Scramble events.
