Founded in 1931 by talented car designer Ferdinand Porsche, Porsche Cars have grown to become one of the best-loved and most successful sports car manufacturers in the world. From its humble VW-based beginnings, the basic Porsche design has evolved through air-cooled 'flat six' engined 911 models to the latest water cooled 996 and highly acclaimed Boxster.
As well as its famous 911 design, Porsche has also been successful with more conventional designs such as the four-cylinder 924, the powerful 944, 968 and V8-engined 928 models. Other less well known models include the VW/Porsche 914 and the 911 look-alike 912, which used the four-cylinder 356 engine.
