Already in the mid-60s when Sir William Lyons and his team worked on the design of the XJ he had a 2 door coupe in mind. It should take until 1973 until the elegant, pillarless design was presented to the public for the first time at an International Motor Show and further until 1975 before the car went into production and on the market.
