At first glance, you may be thinking that this is just another super-clean pickup, and you wouldn't be wrong about that. But get closer and you'll see that someone invested pretty heavily to make this 1970 Chevrolet C10 Custom a fantastic cruiser, complete with overdrive, factory A/C, and a potent small block that's more hotrod than pickup truck.
You can't go wrong with shiny black bodywork, and the short bed/regular cab setup is the sports car of pickup trucks, so it's fitting. The sheetmetal is in excellent condition, with good panel alignment and expert prep and paint that makes this truck sparkle. Looking a little more carefully, however, you'll note a blacked-out grille reminiscent of certain SS models in the Chevy lineup. In back, the tailgate has those big, bold CHEVROLET block letters and the bright chrome bumpers have been snugged up close to the bodywork. The upscale stainless trim looks great and adds a lot of eye candy with the black paint, but it's far from being over-done. The bed is still ready, willing, and able to work, although it's awfully shiny and well-finished, showing no evidence of being a work truck in its past. Chrome bed rails are a nice addition, adding practicality that looks great, and lightly tinted windows work especially well on a black truck, giving it a bit of an attitude. There's simply no angle from which this truck doesn't look great.
The muscle car theme continues inside with blue houndstooth upholstery that looks straight out of a vintage Camaro. Black with the blue interior is how this truck was originally ordered, so someone definitely had a sense of style when they were filling out the order form. It's fully restored with a new seat cover on the original bench, new blue door panels, and shiny black paint just about everywhere else. Fresh black carpets are protected by heavy-duty floor mats and the gauges are in fantastic condition and include a very rare factory tach in the center. This truck also carries options like factory A/C, a tilt steering column, and an AM/FM radio that nestled directly into the factory dash location. There's also a Grant GT steering wheel with a leather rim that looks so right many folks might even think it's OEM. Overall, a very tidy interior with an upscale feel.
The engine is a recently refreshed 350 cubic inch V8 wearing fresh paint and a highly polished look. A factory "Winters" aluminum intake manifold, Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, and 350 Vortec heads add some power that you'll feel the first time you drive it. Chrome valve covers and a matching air cleaner dress it up, while the block is bathed in proper Chevy Orange paint for an OEM look. It snaps to life with a single turn of the key and offers a suitably powerful exhaust note, thanks to original ram's horn exhaust manifolds and OEM-style mufflers underneath. It's backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission linked to the original 12-bolt rear end, so the hardware is still rugged enough to do a little hard work but it's eminently comfortable at highway speeds. These trucks featured an interesting coil spring rear suspension that uses long control arms for axle control, and the result is that it rides far better than the more common leaf-sprung units on other pickups. Classic Rally wheels are period-perfect for this 1970 Chevy, and 275/60/15 Goodyear radials fill the wheelwells.
