Overview

Exceptional and rare 1960 Mark 1 Austin Healey BT7 Reg. 428 XVB Vin H-BT7-L/6913 Engine number 29D-RU-H/9556 A matching numbers car as confirmed by the BMiHT certificate. Production date 13/14 January 1960 Dispatch date 5 February 1960 to Vancouver Canada. Purchased new by Mr. Ronald Turner a newly qualified Dental Surgeon in Northern Canada who owned the car for almost 40 years until 1999 when he sold it to Mr Jan Konarzewski a soon to be retired aerospace engineer as a restoration project for his retirement. Shortly after the restoration process began in 2002, Mr Konarzewski fell ill and the programme was somewhat delayed and not completed until 2008/9. The total “body off” restoration was carried out by skilled professionals and technicians. The body was removed and put onto a rotisserie. All repairable items and panels being either repaired professionally or replaced with new components. The many new components used during the process were sourced either at Moss Motors in the USA or UK Healey in Warwick England. (Many photographs and Invoices are available) The chassis was checked for correctness, stripped, sand-blasted and professionally restored to “as new” standard as necessary, it was then primed and painted in body colour (as the early Healey’s were originally presented) and the completed car was then also primed and painted to a very high standard. The engine was stripped, fitted with hardened valve seats and rebuilt as appropriate. The steering, brakes and suspension were overhauled and the gearbox and axles were tested and serviced as necessary. (see comment below *) A new wiring harness was installed and the radiator rebuilt. A completely new red with black piping interior was sourced and fitted including, door cards, seats and carpets etc. A new black hood and high quality “ribbed” tonneau cover were obtained. The original side curtains are complete and still in good condition and are with the car, along with a number of new and used components. The tyres and original painted wire wheels, are all in excellent condition. An enormous quantity of receipts totalling in excess of $ 40,000 and a large number of photographs from those years during the restoration process accompany the vehicle. The car was professionally appraised in 2009 on completion by a specialist insurance appraisal company and valued at Can.$70,000 a copy of this glowing report is included in the many documents that accompany the car. From 2010 to 2017 sadly due to his by now almost semi-permanent poor state of health, the vehicle was dry stored in Jan’s heated garage, and covered only 49 miles during those 7 years when for insurance purposes it was again appraised and revalued. The appraisal itself hardly differed from the first one in terms of its glowing report but now indicated that the value had increased to over Can.$100,000 (a copy of this appraisal is also included in the extensive documents included in the sale) Re-patriated to the UK by a Healey enthusiast in 2017 the car was fully tested, serviced, thoroughly checked and tuned by an experienced Healey specialist. It now carries a “new” UK Mot certificate and an age-related UK registration number and is available for a new owner, who to all intents and purposes will secure a lightly used almost “as new” Healey whilst at the same time leaving room for the discerning owner to add his/her own personal touches. The car looks stunning in red with a red & black interior and complemented by the black tonneau & hood, the car presents very well indeed. The engine starts “on the button”, pulls strongly and sounds wonderful, with no smoke the overdrive on 3rd & top works perfectly and the oil pressure and temperature hold steady at 40psi and 180 degrees respectively when warm. The original instruments all operate as they should and the original speedometer shows some 61,000 miles which judging by the amount of time the vehicle was either stored or under restoration, could well be a true figure. On the road, it drives exceptionally well, as a properly restored Healey should, *with the exception of a slightly noisy 1st & reverse gear (hardly used anyway and for which a generous allowance to the price will be made.) Overall this car is an exceptional example of the marque as can be seen in the photographs and may be viewed in Norfolk England. A part exchange for something “interesting” may be considered if desired. The car is now at a just reduced and very reasonable £45,500 Contact the vendor for more information on XXXXXXXX
